Compare the size of any two things

Choose two things and both silhouettes are drawn on one ground line at the same scale, so the gap you see is the real difference in size. Each size is the measurement its source gives, such as a height, a length or a wingspan, so a snake’s length next to a person’s height compares those two numbers and nothing more. When one thing is more than 30 times the size of the other, a single drawing would shrink the smaller one to a speck, so the figure splits into panels and marks how far each one zooms out. The ratio is the larger size divided by the smaller, rounded to two significant figures.
