Multiplayer

Play against friends: duels, teams and private rooms

Magnitudle's multiplayer is live: everyone sees the same round at the same time and has the same time limit to answer. Play a duel, a team match or a free-for-all against people near your skill, practise against a bot, or open a private room for friends. Rated matches move your skill rating, and quick answers earn a speed bonus. A match from the queue is 5 rounds, mixing resize, rank, pick-the-biggest and estimate rounds.

Game modes

1v1 duel

One opponent, matched by rating. The longer you wait, the wider the search. If nobody is found within 15 seconds, a bot takes the empty seat. Duels are rated.

2v2 and 3v3 teams

Two teams, balanced by rating. Every player scores their own rounds, and the team with the higher average points per player wins. Empty seats are filled with bots after 15 seconds. Team matches are rated.

4-player free-for-all

Four players, each for themselves, ranked by points at the end. Your rating changes against each of the other three, depending on who finished ahead. Bots fill empty seats after 15 seconds. Free-for-all matches are rated.

Against a bot

No waiting: pick a bot at one of four levels and play at once. Each bot has a fixed rating, and bot matches are rated, so they are a good way to practise and to calibrate.

  • Easy 1,100
  • Medium 1,450
  • Hard 1,750
  • Expert 2,050

Private rooms

Set up a match your way. Choose two teams of up to 4 each or a free-for-all of 2 to 8 players, mix people and bots, pick the bot level, the number of rounds (3 to 10) and, if you like, a topic. Share the room's 6-character code with friends so they can join. A room can be listed for anyone to join or kept to people with the code. Room matches are not rated.

Ranked

Skill rating

Your rating is a number that goes up when you beat players and down when you lose to them. Magnitudle uses the Glicko-2 system: a win against a stronger player counts for more than a win against a weaker one, and the rating also tracks how sure it is about you. Everyone starts at 1,500.

Your first 10 rated matches are calibration. While the rating is still unsure of you it moves in bigger steps, and your tier shows as “Calibrating”. After that you get a tier. If you stop playing for a while, the rating becomes less sure again and moves faster when you come back.

Tiers by rating
TierRating
Bronzebelow 1,200
Silver1,200 to 1,399
Gold1,400 to 1,599
Platinum1,600 to 1,799
Diamond1,800 to 1,999
Master2,000 and above

Your rating and tier are on your profile, and the app has leaderboards for rating, XP and the daily challenge.

Points in a match

Rounds are scored exactly as in the rest of the game, out of 100. On top of that, any round you score 50 or more on earns a speed bonus of up to 20 points: the faster you answer, the bigger the bonus. Each match also earns XP: 30 for a win, 15 for a draw and 10 for a loss.

The scoring rules are in how scoring works.

Friends

Play with friends

Invite codes

Add friends with an invite link or its 8-character code. A link works for 24 hours and for up to 5 friends, so you can drop it into a group chat.

Challenge a friend

Tap Challenge next to a friend to open a private room and send them its code.

Recent opponents

The people you have played lately, with your record against each of them, so a good rival is easy to find again.

Quick reactions, no chat

Send a quick reaction such as “GG”, “Nice one” or “So close” during a match. There is no chat and no free text, so nobody can send you anything else.
